What is Ecodesign?
What is Ecodesign?

Ecodesign, or sustainable design, is an economic model that encompasses the entire process of a product’s conception, design, marketing and disposal, with the aim of reducing the overall environmental impact of the entire chain.

From industrial design to Ecodesign

Unlike industrial design, which focuses on manufacturability, Ecodesign focuses on the product design stage itself. By combining technical, functional and economic requirements, it minimises the environmental and social impact throughout the entire life cycle of the product and its components.

A new design frontier that deals with efficient use of resources and materials, reducing the amount of waste and addressing durability, reparability, upgradeability and recyclability.

Performance, Reduction, Recycling: FITT products are the result of the 3 principles of Ecodesign

PERFORMANCE

Chemical and product safety are for FITT necessary requirements, which is why it strives to meet market standards. Each product is developed to ensure performance and durability for as long as possible. Furthermore, with a view to minimising waste, the products can be repaired very easily.

REDUCTION

FITT takes great care in the selection of raw materials, with the object of minimising the quantities used and, therefore, environmental impact. Maximum importance is also given to the design of the packaging. Packaging materials, essential for the transport and preservation of the products, are used in the smallest quantities necessary, and are optimised to reduce space requirements during transport, therefore limiting CO2eq emissions.

CIRCULARITY

FITT favours the use of second-life materials, giving preference to those for which an established recycling chain already exists. In some cases, FITT will encourage or create new ones. To simplify future recyclability, single-component solutions that can be easily separated are also designed.
