The Garden Division of FITT announces its entry into Make It Zero, a global initiative launched by EDRA/GHIN to tackle greenhouse gas emissions in the DIY sector. With a particular focus on Scope 3 emissions, Make It Zero aims to mobilize the global value chain to collaborate and expand decarbonization efforts.
Shared goals and commitment
Make It Zero provides tools and a collaborative network that enable companies to effectively interact with their supply chains, as well as calculate and reduce Scope 3 emissions. These emissions, indirectly generated through the supply chain and from the use and disposal of products, are often the most difficult to monitor and mitigate.
To further enhance this commitment, EDRA/GHIN, representing 230 DIY sector companies in 78 countries, has requested all members to sign a formal pledge for the decarbonization of Scope 3. This pledge ensures that companies address not only their own operational emissions but also those of their supply chain.
A global action led by industry leaders
The initiative was first introduced in June 2023 by Thierry Garnier, President of EDRA/GHIN and CEO of Kingfisher, and John W. Herbert, General Secretary of EDRA/GHIN, during the 9th Global DIY Summit in Berlin. Later in the year, a partnership with Ricardo, a renowned environmental consulting and engineering firm, was announced to help the sector identify and reduce Scope 3 emissions.
Together, they have developed a strategy and roadmap for Scope 3, outlining a series of clear actions that DIY sector retailers can take to accelerate the decarbonization of the value chain.
In September 2024, the Scope 3 initiative was officially renamed Make It Zero.
Towards a more sustainable future with Make It Zero
FITT’s entry into Make It Zero marks another step in its journey towards sustainability, opening up new opportunities for collaboration and sharing of resources and knowledge.
Already a Benefit Corporation and B-Corp certified since 2024, FITT continues its environmental commitment along the path already established with its sustainability strategy “The Responsible Flow,” aimed at optimizing the company’s environmental impact across all operational aspects.
